Marriage Practices in Bulgaria

Bulgaria is a nation abundant with exciting customs. The ones that surround the marriage can be quite hilarious, moving, and completely different from the traditional western meeting. I had the honor of witnessing a few of them while filming marriages in Bulgaria.

One of the most distinctive bridal customs in Bulgaria is known as the “gelina.” It’s where the man goes and steals his wedding from her relatives house, taking her to his own house. It’s thought that this ritual will defend against wicked temperament and provide nice riches for the newlyweds.

The couple will typically attend a lavish reception in a restaurant or other venue following the church or civil ceremony ( or both ). Their mothers did transfer tiny pieces of the traditional circular breads bulgarian wife dipped in sugar and honey before entering the house. The first item is salt to remind them of the troubles their union will provide, and the second is sweet, which serves as a reminder of the delicacy that will also be present in their life together.

The “kumove,” two people who serve as the couple’s most significant friends and mentors, are another crucial component of the wedding, making their role as their relatives and coaches. They will guide them in their future lives jointly and link them through the challenging times.

When the welcome begins it’s time for a lot of dancing. The dance begins with the best gentleman and strongest female. The bride and groom dance a few times to get their wonderful pie, which is customary.
